For a unique show in France, the japanese band Galneryus granted us an exclusive interview, a press conference and a private amazing show. Back to the band with the japanese speed metal sound.
HoW : Hello Galneryus, nice to meet you ! Can you introduce yourselves to people who do not know you yet?
Band : We are Yuhki on keayboards, Taka on bass guitar, Syu on guitar, Junichi on drums and Sho on vocals.
HoW : How can yo udescribe your music ?
Syu : Galneryus is a kind of mix between melodic speed metal, classical music, progressive music and enka, J-pop.
HoW : Which artists have influenced you?
Syu : Our principal influence is the japanese heavy metal wih some monsters bands like X JAPAN, Loudness, and nordic metal. Yuhki is influenced by brit-rock too.
HoW : Since a few years, you have a new singer, Sho. What’s new in your music with him?
Syu : You know, heavy metal is a very loud and noisy music, with Sho we try to get it more mainstream and easy-listening.
Yuhki : We really work hard on melodies.
HoW : You have two self-covers album, The Ironhearted Flag Vol.1 Regeneration Side et The Ironhearted Flag, Vol.2 – Reformation Side and on the second piece, we can notice a total rewriting work on music orchestrations, texts and titles. et notamment sur le second nous pouvons remarquer un travail de réécriture au niveau de la musique, des textes mais également des titres des chansons. How did you have this idea?
Syu : Like you said, we have two self-covers albums. The first part was made with the intention to replay old tracks with the actual formation, while the second part is the desire to produce something new with the formation we wanted from the birth of Galneryus, So we rewrited music and titles. Fans of the « old » Galneryus have the first versions of our songs and new fans can discover or rediscover our old stuff with the music they love.
HoW : Are you working on a new album?
Syu : On september, we have a new release, VETELGYUS, our new album. It will be very special because it’s influenced by celtic music, irish folk and disco sounds. The eponyme track is an exclusive 8 minutes instrumental track, and this, this is new for us.
HoW : Special question for Syu, in France some fans of J-Rock consider you as the greatest guitarist since hide (X JAPAN). What do you think about it?
Syu : It’s a great honor for me to be considered as his successor! I really adore hide and I would really like to be also cool as him.
The rest of the questions was kept for the press conference which followed a short time later (soon retranscribed on the site). Thanks to 33 Degrees to have allowed us to meet Galneryus as well as to have granted us an interview with the band and thank you also to the band and to its staff for their extreme kindness and accessibility.
